08 DAYS/ 7 NIGHTS BALLIEM VALLEY

Day 01 Denpasar- Jayapura – Wamena (L,D)
Depart to Jayapura on GA 652 ( 02.30 – 08.40) Arrive at Jayapura Sentani Airport and take a short flight to Wamena. After arrive in Wamena transfer to The Baliem Valley Resort overnights at TBVR. (www.balliem-valley-resort.com), afternoon free at own leisure or visiting the Dani’s Hamlet in Hotel surrounding.

Day 02 Saltspring, Kurulu-Mummy, traditional Dani hamlet (B,L,D)
In the morning one hour drive to Jiwika in the central Baliem-Valley. Start of a one hour-long walking-tour uphill (about 300 m height) trough a beautiful mountain-rainforest to the traditional salt spring of a Dani clan. Native women in traditional costumes accompany us. They will demonstrate the old way of the salt production. After the relegation we have lunch on the mountains base. After lunch we walk to the close Kurulu hamlet, where a very old mummy of the famous Dugum clan can be admired. Afterwards the women show us how the brought brine is processed. In the neighbourhood we see more picturesque hamlets. Everywhere the friendly natives offer their arts and crafts, weapons and curiosities. In the afternoon drive back to the Resort

Day 03 PIG Cooking Festival (B,L,D)
A special welcome will be given to you upon your arrival in the Village, all Clan member will be gathering on their best outfit to show their appreciation, the Tribe chief will stand on a Traditional Observation and give the order to his people to celebrate, A special “pig-festival” with the hot stones and the earth pits is probably the most interesting thing to see on a travel to PAPUA will be arrange for you. Photographer and moviemakers will totally be satisfied to day. The unique of such an event can hardly be described by words. You have to see it with your own eyes. Lunch will be inside the hamlet. Of course there is also the opportunity for each guest to eat out of the traditional earth pit. The fresh pig meat and the sweet potatoes taste delicious. Back to the Resort in the late afternoon.

Day 04 Pyramid Region (B,L,D)
Start in the morning. First of all we visit the big native market in Wamena, then continue drive along the western side of the valley. Landscape in the west part is different compared to the east, it is dominated by grass-savannas, many giant acacia trees can be seen on the riverbank. Plenty of opportunity for you to take Papua Beautiful Countryside picture. Small breaks in the bigger market places Elagaima and Kimbim. Depend on the weather and Street Condition we might drive up to the Magi Mountain in the Pyramid region, however here we will have a spectacular view over the western Baliem-River while enjoying your Lunch. The settlement of Pyramid in the northern Baliem-Valley was one of the first missionary stations in the early 50´s concerning the highlands of West-Papua. Later cosy drive back to the Resort. (180 kms altogether)

Day 05 Voyage by boat on the Baliem-River (B,L,D)
In the morning we drive on our Safari Bus to the north passing the City of Wamena to the Assologaima region. Start of our voyage downstream the river on our specially design Raft until we reach the suspension bridge of Wesaput. The comfortable voyage passes beautiful fertile-woods and wild groves of sugar cane. All the time we see old, hidden Dani-hamlets in the shadows of big acacia-trees next to the river. We can observe how Dani-women wash the sweet potatoes for their Dinner and sometimes we can see the natives on their traditional one-tree-boats. In the afternoon we reach the suspension bridge of Wesaput where our Safari Bus is waiting for us. We drive back to the Resort, after our raft it’s safely tied on the cars´ roof.

Day 06 Wamena City Tour (B,L,D)
In the morning drive from the resort to the biggest traditional market in the heart of Wamena where you can meet hundreds of Dani selling and bartering their agrarian products. Traditional arts and crafts like stone axes, grass nets, arrows and bows are being sell too, after this spectacle then continue drive to the local market near the Wamena Bridge. The beautiful decorated landscape is waiting for your Photographic skills. Visit to the water power station at the upper course of the beautiful Wamena-River in where we will have our lunch break surrounded by wonderful nature. Drive on to the powerful Baliem-River near Wesaput, where a big suspension bridge has to be crossed due to the traditional Dani hamlets on the other side of the river that we want to visit. Before we drive back to the Resort you have the possibility to make some small purchases in Wamena.

Day 07 Wamena – Jayapura (B,L,D)
Transfer to Wamena and take a short flight to Jayapura. Upon arrival direct city sightseeing Jayapura. Visiting Sentani Lake, Anthropoligical Museum ( subject to change )and local Market Hamadi. Overnight at Sentani Indah Hotel.

Day 08. Jayapura Departure (B)
Breakfast at Hotel, then transfer to the Airport for your next Destinations
